The woods of Barão de São João is in Rede Natura 2000 and belongs to Sítio Costa Sudoeste. The biodiversity of the type of habitat- Serra- to which it belongs is characterized by numerous typical Mediterranean tree species, mammals, birds, insects and small vertebrates. Mata de Barão has mainly pine and wattle areas, biomes with a very distinct biodiversity. In the pine forest, phenomena of ecological succession occur, while in the acacia there is a total absence of life and soils are very poor, a phenomenon typical of invasive species. The vegetation cover has several types of shrubs and plants with ancient histories and uses, some still used today. The Mata has a temporary pond, important in the proliferation of life and interconnection of ecological chains, resilient in the drier seasons. The entire forest has dynamics in different seasons, and an ecological balance typical of an ecosystem of dry Mediterranean climates.

Note: Bring comfortable clothes and shoes.
